| On
site, the final build begins as all of the sections are hoisted
up to 16ft in the air, and the hydraulics and pneumatics are connected
and tested. Scaffolding is constructed to support the model while
it is built, and a hydraulic crane is used to get the artists
and technicians into the air to fit the Tyrannosaur. The 20ft
long tail is hoisted and attached to the body with a 60mm thick
stainless steel axle making up the joint. |

The
final coats of colour are added as the creature is put together.
One of the last sections to be added is the calf muscle which
bears none of the weight of the animatronic. This fibre glass
casting covers 4 inch box section steel which supports the whole
Tyrannosaur. The T-rex is finished, and still runs daily at
a theme park in the UK. The lower right image is a digital composition
showing our T-rex in a tropical location. |
