T-rex  |

| Construction
of a full size animatronic Tyrannosaurus rex begins by creating
a 1:30 scale maquette, using Tony McVey's 'Running T-rex' model
as a prime reference. A plastic copy of the maquette is then cut
up into 5mm thick slices, which are scanned front and back to
create digital outlines of each slice. These outlines are projected
up to 30 times their original size onto sheets of polystyrene
150mm thick - 30 times thicker than the plastic maquette slices. |

These
shapes are then cut out using a hot wire tool. After outlines
have been cut out of 130 sheets of polystyrene, the beginnings
of a full size Tyrannosaurus Rex sculpture are ready for the
next stage of construction. |
